VVS Canteen

On August 10, the Cozad Ambassadors presented the Certificate of Appreciation to VVS Canteen for their significant investment in Cozad in the past year. VVS Canteen added a 2,400 square feet office expansion resulting in the hiring of three new employees. The expansion will allow for eight more office personnel in the future.
VVS, Inc. (Valley Vending Service) was founded in 1961 when two local business owners joined forces in the automated food business. Wayne Davis and Gale Evans began selling candy and pastry items in a few vending machines to their first account, the Monroe Shock Absorber manufacturing plant in Cozad. In 1979, after running the company for eighteen years, Wayne stepped down and his son Dick Davis became president.  Dick guided VVS through a series of company acquisitions, new account sales and territory expansions. His daughter, Kristen Jack, joined the company in 1991, and now serves as President of VVS, Inc. Dick remains as the Chief Financial Officer and Chairman of the Board.

In June 2001, VVS, Inc. signed with Canteen, the largest vending company in the world, as a member of their Franchise Group. With Canteen’s guidance and VVS’s deep roots in quality service and innovation, the company has continued to acquire business in Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Colorado and Texas. VVS Canteen employs 500 individuals that service more than 3700 vending machines, 1600 amusement devices and numerous foodservice locations spanning six states.  The corporate offices in Cozad has 30 employees.

VVS Canteen innovation now offers Micro Markets to their list of vending solutions for businesses. A Micro Market, an alternative to traditional vending, is like having your own market place right on site. They offer a great variety and are amazingly convenient. The Micro Market is stocked with fresh, nutritious selections including crisp salads, fresh sandwiches, dairy products, fruit, yogurt, protein drinks, juices and more, along with 24/7 availability.

Micro Markets offer “shop, scan, and enjoy” convenience! You make your selections – pick them right out of the coolers or off the shelves, check out the nutritional information, then, scan the bar code at the kiosk. Your selections and prices are viewable on the kiosk screen with a final total and you can pay with a reloadable market card, or a credit/debit card. Micro Markets can also be set up in businesses to allow employees to pay using their thumbprint instead of using cards.

In addition to giving you a cashless solution to shopping, reloadable market cards can also be a source for incentives, special offers, and the ability to track purchases and nutritional information.

VVS Canteen is also able to set up surveillance to prevent and detect theft at the vending machines. They have the technology to view their vending machines in their Cozad office, regardless of the vending machine or micro market location.

President Kristen Jack expressed, “We like being here because of the good work ethic and the overall quality of life Cozad has to offer, plus it is our hometown.”  Jen McKeone, Executive Director of Cozad Development Corporation stated “I think we forget sometimes that we have the corporate offices of a national industry leader right here in our own back yard.”

The Cozad Ambassadors are recognizing businesses that have played a significant role in strengthening the Cozad economy and community on behalf of the Cozad Chamber of Commerce and the Cozad Development Corporation.
We are also very grateful to VVS Canteen for the strong support they have shown over the years to their community and for our events.

Congratulations to Dick Davis and Kristen Jack and all of VVS Canteen for their vision, innovation and the high business standard they have worked hard to achieve.
