At the December Board of Education meeting, Cozad bids farewell to four staff members, accepting the resignations of middle school Special Education paraprofessional Deb Klien and high school Special Education paraprofessional Rebecca Gayles, along with certified staff Blair Stuthman (elementary school counselor) and long-time teacher Pam Laird. Superintendent James Ford reported positive trends in reduced office referrals and highlighted achievements in the One-Act team and elementary music program. Meanwhile, Cozad's athletic department is considering adding girls wrestling to the roster. Committee concerns were raised about roofing issues, causing hesitation in providing additional funds until problems are resolved. Other approved matters include a new preschool playground, legal counsel, policy rewording, and acknowledgment of a $370,000 settlement for a wrongful death claim related to a vehicular accident. The next Board of Education meeting is scheduled for January 15, 2024.
