Four Cozad citizens are running for seats on the City Council, with two candidates in each ward automatically advancing to the general election in November as there are no primary elections. Incumbents Torrey Kloppenborg and Ron Olds are not seeking re-election.
In the West Ward, Jennifer Howerter and Laura Peltier are vying for the council seat, while in the East Ward, Ron Urban and Patrick Worthman are the candidates.
To introduce the candidates to the community, each was asked a series of questions:
Why are you running for city council?
What do you see as Cozad’s biggest strengths/assets?
What area could Cozad improve to make it an even better place?
What are some goals for serving the City of Cozad if elected?
What do you perceive as your strengths if elected to the city council? What experiences have helped mold you into wanting to pursue this position?
Each candidate shared their motivations, vision for Cozad's future, and their strengths and experiences that would benefit the council if elected.
Jennifer Howerter, from the West Ward, emphasizes the need for more job opportunities, housing, and daycare services to enhance Cozad's livability.
Laura Peltier, also from the West Ward, values community involvement and wants to focus on improving infrastructure and civil services to support the city's growth.
